Editorial Reviews for  'Love Letter (1998) [VHS]'

No one with romantic tendencies will be able to resist The Love Letter. Campbell Scott plays a Civil War buff who buys a desk from that era. While polishing it, he discovers a secret compartment, in which sits an unmailed letter--a letter written by a young woman named Lizzie (Jennifer Jason Leigh) over a century earlier. Touched by her yearning for passion, he writes her back, egged on by his mystically inclined mother (Estelle Parsons). Magically his letter reaches Lizzie and they begin a correspondence that threatens Scott's impending marriage but promises to bring fulfilment to Lizzie. The Love Letter is absurd, yet somehow that doesn't stop it from being completely engaging and even moving. Scott and Parsons are solid, while Jason Leigh is downright rapturous--the movie may owe its success to her. The plot has surprising twists and the conclusion is sweet and satisfying. An unexpected pleasure. --Bret Fetzer

The Love Letter
I have this film, have watched it numerous times and still enjoy it to the point of feeling what the young couple feels when parted for a time and maybe "forever". (I'm not going to tell you the ending!) If you like to be entertained and cut the TV off feeling as if you've spent your time well, buy this movie. I plan to buy a DVD when a good one comes out.

I have watched this
Movie so many times, I may have to order a new copy. I have lent my copy to many of my friends, even going as far as sending it all the way to Alaska, so an old friend I recently reconnected with could watch it, too. The concept of reaching through time was intriguing, to say the least. When Scott was in Elizabeth's house, and felt her as he was coming down the stairs and she was going up, and again as she sat combing her hair in her room, were 2 scenes I wanted to go on and on. When Scott met the woman with the dog at the end, It was so cool when she introduced herself as Beth. Kind makes you want to believe in reincarnation......

The Love Letter
Shows how love can travel through the ripples of time. Reminds me of the movie Somewhere In Time with Christopher Reeves and Jane Seymour. If you liked that then you will love this!

Love Letter
If you believe in love that transcends time and space...if you believe there is more than the reality of today and your four walls, then you would love The Love Letter. It is a lovely display of love beyond what we know in our reality to be true. It is truely a great story. I loved it! 5 Stars!!

too much
Why I dearly loved this movie the money the seller is asking for it is insane. The price would be find if it was a set of movies but just for one the price truly sucks.
